There is a new name and new look for Guernsey-based Babbé McCathie as the company rebrands to reflect increased integration with its partner T&G Structural Engineers.
The move responds to client and construction industry demand for increasingly advanced engineering expertise and capabilities. And places the new fully merged firm into position of being Guernsey’s largest structural engineering company.
The names Babbé and McCathie have been associated with engineering in Guernsey since the 1990s. Originally separate companies, by 2014 they had joined forces and partnered with Jersey-based T&G Structural Engineers. Now six years on, group director Ian Bashforth believes the time is right for the company to both assume a new identity and fully gain the benefits from being part of a larger organisation.
‘Babbé McCathie has a rightly-held position of respect within the island,’ Ian comments, ‘arising from years of delivering high quality engineering services. We’re confident that a new identity won’t change this aspect of the company in any way. But full merger with T&G will change what Babbé McCathie can deliver. T&G has built an enviable reputation through its breadth of engineering expertise and investment in the latest 3D design technologies. With Guernsey’s construction industry demanding increasing access to these capabilities, we want to be in a position to respond.’
The newly merged organisation will continue to operate from offices in Guernsey and Jersey, with staff levels in both unaffected by the merger. But communications technology that proved so essential during Covid-19 lockdowns means a seamless sharing of ideas, information and resources. And a commitment to customer service means existing and new clients will continue to receive the expected level of personal, professional face-to-face support.
‘The merger has come at a great time,’ adds Gary Bougourd, Babbé McCathie’s managing director who will continue to lead the merged company’s Guernsey business. ‘We’ve learned and demonstrated what’s possible by partnering with T&G over the last six years. Now, there’s the opportunity to move the company forward through new focus, services and expansion. The whole team are excited about prospects ahead and looking forward to working even more closely with our Jersey colleagues.’
The new identity will come into place by the end of 2020. In the meantime, clients can continue using existing Babbé McCathie contacts, which will remain accessible for the time being.
