Part 1: Introduction
The team at T&G Guernsey are delighted to be supporting the fantastic redevelopment work underway for the Guernsey Rural Occupational Workshop (GROW Limited).
They are providing engineering design and detailing for regeneration of the expansive site, found at Les Petits Quartiers, Coutanchez in St Sampsons, Guernsey. This will involve constructing a new two-storey 1,680 square metre headquarters, new and updated greenhouses and a publicly accessible retail and hospitality building.
Once complete, the redevelopment will encompass the original site and provide parking for staff and visitors.
We are immensely proud to be involved in this exciting community venture, which will result in new and improved training, working, welfare and leisure spaces for GROW.
As the project engineers, T&G Guernsey is responsible for all structural and civil engineering aspects of the redevelopment, working alongside its architect, Vaudin Architects, and the contractor, BW Builders Ltd.
This is the first of a planned series of updates explaining how T&G Guernsey is approaching the engineering of this exciting project and how its construction unfolds over the next 12 months until reaching practical completion.
The Crew Building, which is the heart of GROW’s operation, will be a steel frame structure clad in insulated aluminium roof and wall panels, possessing a concrete first floor acting compositely with the steel floor beams, all founded on mass concrete pad foundations. Stability is being provided through a series of bracings to the underside of the first floor and cantilever columns which will retain the roof.
During the next few months, we will outline each stage in the development in parallel with the construction taking place on site.
